» One Dish Cooking with Cast Iron
By Stephanie Foster | Published 04/5/2009 | Recipes | Unrated
One of the great things about cast iron cookware is that it can be used on the stove top and the oven. That can make for less mess as you cook.

Your typical one dish meal includes your vegetables, meat and/or grain all in one dish. Most of them are fairly simple to make. The crockpot is a common way to make one dish meals, but your cast iron cookware can do it too.
» Healthy Habits for Your Family

Spring is a great time of year to think about your family's habits and what you can do to keep your kids healthy. The weather is getting better in most areas, and even when it's bad you can think about what you would like to do as a family to build better habits.

Gardening

Whether you're in a home or an apartment, gardening can be a fun, healthy habit.
» Just Give Them a Minute
By Stephanie Foster | Published 10/10/2008 | Children | Unrated
You're trying to get some work done. The kids just won't give you any peace. It doesn't matter if you're trying to get dishes done, laundry, send an email or something else. They want you. Now!

Days like that can drive a parent crazy. You have a lot to do, and the kids just aren't cooperating. It makes the job so much longer.

Ever consider just giving in, at least for a few minutes?

Often enough, this has been my best way to get some peace and quiet for getting other stuff done.
» 5 Quick Ways to Keep Young Children Busy
By Stephanie Foster | Published 10/4/2008 | Children | Unrated
Sometimes the biggest challenge of being home with the kids is, well, the kids. Especially the ones too young for school. It's exhausting not having a break from them at times. It can be hard to get anything done, whether you're trying for a bit of housework or trying to earn money from home.

Even if you're most comfortable with long stretches of work, parenthood often means learning to do more with small bouts of fast work.
» Planning Meals with Your Kids
By Stephanie Foster | Published 09/15/2008 | Children | Unrated
It's a great experience for kids to be involved in the process of preparing meals. They get at least a small say in what they're eating, which can help interest them in the meal. They may even be able to help cook.

Of course, unless you want sweets in every meal, you will want to be sure that you keep some control over the process.

You can involve them long before the cooking starts, too.
» 20 Lessons All Moms Must Learn

When you're a parent, you have a lot to learn about when it's okay to look foolish, when to disagree with the kids and of course when to call the doctor. Many things just take time to figure out before you realize this parenting thing means you really don't have to look great or be brilliant to have your kids think you're all that and more.

» 7 Ways to Brighten Your Child's School Day
By Stephanie Foster | Published 09/10/2008 | Children | Unrated
Going back to school can be stressful for kids. They've had all summer to have fun, but now they have to focus on learning. A little pick me up can do wonders for their attitude toward school.

1. Start with a good breakfast.

There's a reason why "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" is such a cliche. It's true. If your family consistently has trouble making time for breakfast in the morning, try getting up a bit earlier.
» No, Kids, I'm Not Always Fair!
By Stephanie Foster | Published 08/22/2008 | Children | Unrated
As my children enter that delightful stage where they fight over all sorts of random little things, the time also comes when I have to ponder issues of what's fair. Kids are great at pointing out when things are unfair.

On the other hand, I don't want to overdo it. I can still remember as a kid not liking my grandmother's chocolate chip cookies because she counted out the number of chocolate chips for each one, and just poked them in on top.
» Eating for Long Hair
By Stephanie Foster | Published 08/15/2008 | Nutrition | Unrated
One of the secrets to having beautiful long hair is eating well. Genetics play a role too, but you can improve the appearance of your hair by eating well.

Protein is one of the key building blocks of your hair. If you aren't getting enough your hair is not likely to continue growing in healthy, strong and thick.

This doesn't mean you need to eat a lot more meat.
» Getting Your Child's Wardrobe Ready for Back to School
By Stephanie Foster | Published 08/5/2008 | Children | Unrated
Back to school means it's time to go over your child's wardrobe. What fits, what doesn't, what's stained, what's plain worn out?

Even if there's still a good selection of clothes you'll probably still do some back to school shopping. What child doesn't like having a new outfit for the first day of school?

This can also start the annual debate.
