Let me begin by describing what is involved with such a plan. First of all I would like you to notice that I used the word 'plan' intentionally. You see, beginning something as important as weight management without a plan is setting yourself up to fail.

But creating your plan will require a little effort. You should begin by forcing yourself to analyze why you have gained weight in the first place. It is seldom as simple as eating too much. In fact it is wise to begin with a visit to your doctor.

Talk with your physician about your weight and find out if there are any medical issues that may have impacted on your weight. Ask if any of the medications you take may lead to extra pounds. One other thing your doctor can help with is determining a safe level of physical activity for you.

Next you need to make a list of things that will help you with your weight loss success. Because you are going to use a holistic approach you will need to consider all areas of your life. This includes your sleep patterns and how active you are.

If you do not sleep well then you are likely to feel fatigued and tired during the day. Feeling that way you are less likely to be inclined to exercise. You might also opt to eat whatever is fast and easy to prepare instead of having a healthier choice.

Other things to consider are any emotional attachments you may have to food as well as your emotional state. Stress and negativity can result in over eating. Most of us have certain foods that we associate with certain feelings or emotions. Many of us refer to particular foods as comfort foods. Unfortunately those are usually not weight loss friendly choices.

Some of us eat more when we are depressed. We use food as a way of fulfilling unmet needs. Some of us cannot watch TV or surf the Internet without a snack by our side.
